Raja Hasan and Kailash Kher to sing together for Gully Cricket

Kailash-rajaFor a long time, it was my belief that for Raja Hasan to really move ahead in his career - needs to sing more promotional tracks and jingles - rather than just movie soundtracks. Jingles are far more effective than movie songs - when a voice needs to register. Moreover, they are bombarded down the listeners. Kailash Kher’s success has a lot to do with jingles - and today, there can’t be 30 minutes of television viewing in India without hearing his voice. Any time advertisers need to make an emotional appeal - they just have one voice to turn to- Kailash Kher. Once you do well with jingles, movie offers automatically flow in.

Thankfully, Raja Hasan now makes probably his first ever promotional song. And that too with Kailash Kher himself.

Reasonable Advertising  is  conducting a nation-wide T-10 Gully cricket to be played across eight major cities. And for that it has roped in singers Kailash Kher and Raja Hasan to sing the promotional track of the series. The music for the track has been composed by Rohit Sharma. Says the composer, “While briefing me about the concept, the organisers suggested that the song should command an anthem tone and have a Delhi street feel to it, as it is all about Gully (street) cricket.”

He continues, “The song has soulful western and Indian vocals and we have used basic instruments like the Kanjira in the composition as also electronic instruments.” The composer had composed three scratches while composing the track, one of which was finalised by RAPL.

Raja Hasan says, “It is a beautiful track rendered by me and Kailash Kher. It was great that I was a part of the song as I am a cricket fan but cannot be part of the game. At least, I can sing the slogan for the series. As I am comfortable with the Sufi genre, Rohit Sharma wanted me to sing with a western touch and it has come out really well.”

The lyrics have been penned by Sandeep Nath who had earlier contributed for films like Fashion, Sarkar Raj, Sarkar, Page 3 and Bhoot.

The series was launched on Friday with a celebrity match. Participants were a number of television artistes who took their time off to indulge in their favourite pastime, thanks to the on-going suspension of the general entertainment programme productions, following the stand-off between cine workers and programme producers over the wages. Team India star V.V.S Laxman and cricket commentator and former CEO of Royal Challengers  Charu Sharma were present on the occasion. The tournament will feature 40 teams, including five sponsored teams. The top team from each city would vie for the final pay-off in Mumbai in the second week of February next year. The inaugural match will start in Ludhiana and then the series would travel to Jalandhar, Kanpur, Lucknow, Thane, Pune, Nashik and Surat before the grand finale in Mumbai.
