Chandni Chowk to China: Music Release on 2nd December
For some reason, I find the storyline of Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk to China very similar to - believe it or not - Kung Fu Panda.
While in the animated film, an overweight-and overfed Panda gets accidentally appointed as the Dragon Warrior - and goes on to learn Kung Fu skills. Back in CC2C, our own Akshay Kumar from saddi Dilli, an expert like me in sabzi-kaating, moves to rural China - where he is mistaken for a martial arts legend and goes on to master the intricacies of Kung fu.
But let’s forget the similarities for now. Let’s have a look at the music of the film, which is slated for a December 2nd release - next week.
And for long there have been rumors going around that a Raja Hasan song would feature in it. To be honest, there has been no confirmation of the fact from any source yet that a Raja Hasan song would feature in the film. However, it is true that he had recorded a potential song for the film.
How did the news first come out? It happened when Sumedha mentioned the fact that she had recorded a duet with Raja Hasan for a Nikhil Advani film that featured Deepika Padukone. That meant that the film is question was indeed “Chandni Chowk to China”. And we assume, that just because it was Sumedha, the composer had to be Bappi Lahiri - who is one of the composers for the film.
As mentioned many times earlier, CC2C is a multi-composer film with SEL, Kailash Kher, Bappi Lahiri and a Chinese musician - all doing their bits.
Bappi Lahiri was asked to record one song for the film. However, there were faint rumours a few months back - that he actually recorded two songs for the film. One of them was Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost - a remix of the 1977 Aap Ki Khatir hit. Bappi da had sung that song back in 1977, and I think would have recorded the song in his own voice in 2008.
The second song, though hardly mentioned earlier, was Piya Tu Ab to Aaja. And this is precisely the song Raja Hasan and Sumedha had performed in Saregamapa - where Raja did the R.D.Burman voice. So, if there is a Raja song in the CC2C, I am pretty confident, it would be remixed version of the Caravan hit.
But the bad news is, all news reports coming out lately mention just one song from Bappi Lahiri in the film - and that too Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost. CC2C has been a film which has taken ages to make - with numerous hiccups and chopping around. Even its Diwali release was pushed back due to nobody willing to buy the film. The question now is - will the Raja-Sumedha duet make it to the movie - and the album?
I don’t know - but we’ll have to wait till the 2nd of December to know - when the music of the film is officially released.

@Amrita: I don’t think there is a doubt that Raja and Sumedha recorded a song for CC2C. My doubts are if the song will be included in the film.
There were rumors back in April that Bipasha and Katrina were doing two item songs for the film. Now this news is nowhere to be heard lately. That is what raises my doubts.
Okay, Raja’s official site clarifies that there is a Raja-Sumedha duet in the film. It is probably an entirely different song - with Raja singing in the R.D Burman voice a lot like the Caravan song.

Raja’s song is not composed by Bhappi Da, but i think Shanker A L has composed and definately is there in film, a duet with Sumedha…………………………

Raja is full of talent. There is no doubt in that. This film industry should use it correctly. Ok lets hope for the best. Uparwala sub kuch use dega jo vo diserve kartha hain..

the music release has been postponed to dec 9 ………andguys last year in saregamapa i heard shekhar saying that raja has recorded a song with sel …….may be raja will feature with a solo in cc2c………..
