  10. hahahaha  Very funny, Raffu - you crack me up. ;)

  11. Wasn’t Shivaranjini often used for Mukesh songs - like Jaane Kahaan Gaye woh din. Also the famous Mere Naina Saawan Bhaadon song by Lata and Kishore.

  12. Dear Raffu

I only has Karnatak Music knowledge. I do not know Hindustani music at all, but I enjoy all kinds of music. Shivaranjini Raaga is same name in both Karnatak and Hindustani which is one my favorite Raagas. Revathi and Shivarnjini Raagas are used in many film songs.

  13. Dear Manish

You are right about Jaane Kahan Gaye woh din and Mere Naina Saawan Bhaadon.

  14. wow.. Subhadra.. that is awesome!!
u must do a write up so that we can learn more about karnatak music.
see we are learning so much from here. lately rahul has been enlightening us with hindustani music and the general knowledge.. it would be wonderful to read about karnatak music too specially for all those people who dont know what the difference is between the karnatak and hindustani and also we would learn so much and something new.. hope to read ur write up soon.
and yes.. thanks a zillion for throwing light on that raaga. :D

  15. raffu meri pyari souten and Mr He (hehe) I also learnt carnatic music. And Manish dearest I also learnt sivaranjani.

now will you DROP the nose bit and set the pun right?????????????????? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  16. and yes Mr HE I second Rahul’s statement. THANKS for having kept this site so so alive kicking and HEALTHY which is not a mean feat given these days and kalyug and all

  17. padma… ha ha haha … u r so cute.. but the nose thing does bring a smile on face .. doesnt it.. lol
yeah blame manish to come up with such humor… he is too much!! well why dont u think of a name for him and we can give that to manish.. after all he needs to get punished for not answering the questions which we had asked once upon a time. so u can take all the revenge at one go ;)

  18. padma… by the way.. i am very proud of u that u learnt carnatic music… so when do we get to hear you sing? :D

  19. soon and I want to hear subhadra too in fact we should all sing and dedicate our song to raja plus whoever else we want to. what says???

  20. good night guys raffu manish shashiji subhadra MAN ISH Monsieur Rahul and the rest of the gang see you tomorrow
might be away on sat sun and back monday not sure, to the hills with no network no electricity most likely and no internet obviously shit shit

  21. so i sollely depend upon Mr HE and my dearest ones for keeping me posted and posting videos etc etc IN CASE I GO that is ok?

  22. Subhadra,

You are right, it is Shiv-ranjini. Notes are Sa Re ga Pa Dha Sa..
Since it is film song it can only be said to be based on Shivranjini, there is mixing of other notes like Ni and shudha Ga.

Can you recall a disticnt feeling of “Tere Bich mein kaisa hai yeh bandhan” when listening to the opening music?

There another raag (which is transoposed variant of shivranjini) called Shobavari (or audav Asavari) which also has same notes. “Jiya tose laga (in this song)” words follow those notes… this pattern is used in many many film songs, “kabka bichhde hue hum”, “ek dor khinche duja (in tere mere bich main), “sari sari raat teri”, “pardesiyo se na ”

Kalyanji-Anandji’s , Laxmikant Pyarelal …all those 70-80s composer had this as their favorite.

  23. My comments did not show up ..trying again !

  24. Rahul

Thanks for confirming it. Shivaranjini Raaga is one of my favourites along with Charukeshi (both Hindustani and Karnatak) and Revathi.

  25. yes and all these compositions are so beautiful. Subhadra I also love sivaranjani. There are son may compositions based on it in both hindi and south indian film songs. Yes Manish mere naina sawan bhaadon phir bhi mera man pyasa and also kati patang (na koyi umang hai na koyi tarang hai). Am I right Rahul?

  26. and you are absolutely right about the beginning reminding one of tere mere beech me aisa he yeh bandhan anjaana

  27. Subhadra,
Charukeshi is one of my favorites too ….i recently commented on it on orkut when Debojit sang “megha re megha re” and ali abbas sang “kadiya mil sawal” in the same week in JJWS/Junoon respectively.

  28. my goodness.. i am learning so much from here.
i didnt even knew the names to these raagas above.
we truely are so blessed to have such knowledgeble persons here. pls forgive me when i talk nonsense… but thanks a zillion for sharing ur knowledge with us.
please keep sharing and informing us more. God bless you all!!

  29. very sad guys that akbar ali who according to me was the most genuine singer and a pleasure to listen to on junoon was voted out today

  30. Raffu

I have a tiny tiny knowledge about music. Karnatak Music has 72 major Raagas which are called Mela Kartha Raagas (They contain all 7 swaras). Out of 72 Major Raagas, thousands of Raagas are derived. All I can say is Music is a very very difficult art and that is why I appreciate all these kids coming and singing on these reality shows. There is one girl on Star Voice of India by the name of Riteesha(from Karnataka) whom I know personally since she was a child. She also has gotten admission to Suratkal Engineerng College and her parents do not kow what to do leave her in the Competition or make her go back to the college.

  31. wow.. Subhadra.. that is awesome.. 1000s of raagas.. my goodness.. one life is not enough to know about them all. i salute u guys.
and i am so happy to read about reetisha.. i heard she is an awesome singer.. i dont get the channel but now after reading urs.. i sure am planning to catch her up at least on youtube.
and thanks thansk thanks for everything.
    God bless you!!

  32. Subhadra, I have to let you know that I am so, so, so impressed with Rithisha - I listened to her Jaane Kya Baat Hain yesterday and with that one song I am fida over her voice and singing. After that I listened to all the youtube videos of Rithisha and I am impressed - I really, really do wish that she becomes the star voice of India this time. I can understand how difficult it must be for her parents - especially when a child is so talented - I wish them all the best and hope they make a good choice for Rithisha. It must be quite tough on Rithishaalso. I wish her all the very best in what ever she chooses to do.

Anyways, I found this link for online voting for SVOI…

    http://voiceofindia.indya.com/vote/vote.asp

and hope to vote for Rithisha soon. :)

  33. And I must honestly say I have not listened to anyone else in SVOI - I do not get that channel. But, I think even if I do listen to others, Rithisha has managed to make a place for herself in my heart and it’s not going to be easy for anyone else to take her place. :)

  34. oh ho - what happened to my long, long, long comment on Rithisha directed to Subhadra… went into a black hole - why? I have deduced (from previous experiences) it’s because of the link in the comment. A good link, Mr. He, - no naughty stuff there :) please put my comment back. Otherwise my comment just above this is very, very incomplete and my fingers are tired typing - I cannot type it again or quote it word to word again - pls, pls, pls, put it back. :)

  35. Oops - now I see it’s still awaiting moderation - things have been really weird today…. ok then, I will wait patiently for my comment to pass thru moderation…. :)
