The Winner, the Wife and the Winning Medley

raja-ayesha-ukuIt was during Saregamapa that one wish of Raja Hasan remained unfulfilled. He had plans - that once he had won - he would go on and declare his love on stage for Ayesha - someone who was kept under wraps. But that never happened.

But then, when he was declared the winner on Ustaadon ka Ustaad, Raja knew he had to make to make up for the past. The first thing he did was rush down the stage and hug his wife Ayesha - as the cameras followed him. Sajid asked Ayesha joined them on stage and she spoke a few words on how Raja was destined for bigger things in life - all the while fighting hard to keep the tears away.

Love stories do have their happy moments.

uku-winner-raja-hasanComing back to Raja’s singing, it was a well-deserved victory. And it came after a really tough round - where you had to sing a medley of songs. And Raja’s choice of songs were the one that did the trick. What he performed was a “seamless” medley - in which he comfortably moved from one song to another and coming back to the original. A wonderful fusion of Sufi numbers interspersed with a bit of rock.

It isn’t something that we haven’t heard him do before. During the US/Canada concerts, he very often mixed Teri Deewani with his trademark “Deewane ki nazron” (I think this part is his own composition). I distinctly remember that on one occasion, where he moved from Teri Deewani to the Bheegi Bheegi number and back to Teri Deewani song again - all in one smooth flow.

This time, he did the very sequence. Teri Deewani > Deewanon Ki Nazron> Bheegi Bheegi > Teri Deewani. And this time, he knew what he was doing and mixed the variations perfectly.

No other singer could so well merge all three songs. And that is what probably clinched things in Raja’s favour. It was not just the singer in Raja that got him the Ustaadon ka Usataad tiltle - but the composer in him that made his task a lot easier.

Well done Raja. Well done Raja fans. But the road ahead is still filled with challenges. And you can be assured that we Raja fans will keep backing you all the way.
