A very special blessing for Raja on his birthday

ghazal There’s something about Raja Hasan - his appeal is something that is quite universal. And the kind of people who respond to him cut across all barriers of ages, religion, region, nationalities and language. On his birthday, I came across a comment posted by a lady named Shashi, who had a small birthday message for Raja. The comment was in Hindi/Urdu and I am transliterating it into English. I thought this was too valuable, too moving, to be tucked away as a comment.

Here’s what Shashi wrote:

Today is Raja’s birthday. And on this occasion I would like to share with all Raja fans my feelings. I have been a regular viewer of saregamapa for the past many years. I have been seeing Raja ever since he was in the Eklavya gharana. According to the show format, when two contestants were eliminated, judges used to select contestants from the Eklavya group. Whenever Raja was in the queue to sing I always had the feeling that this kid has something special in him and I wondered why he wasn’t being selected. When Raja was in the final two contestants, I was proud of my decision to support him. And I told myself - that he is the winner.

When Raja sang “Meri Zindagi ek Khwab“, I was in tears, I was crying. The honesty in his voice and personality forced me to tears. I am a 48 year old lady and I have prayed for this boy’s success so many times - perhaps more often than I have prayed for my own children. I am firm believer of Lord Krishna and whenever I see Lord Krishna’s face, I am reminded of Raja. Whenever I visit the temple or see Raja’s face, I have tears in my eyes- because, there is something divine about Raja. I wish to God that Raja gets all the success in life and he reaches those heights that nobody has ever achieved. May every person - small or big, everyone who believes in humanity, everyone who loves art, give Raja love and respect.

I love every song of his, but my favourites are those three songs that gave him his identity - ‘Meri Zindagi Ek khwaab’, ‘Naina thag lenge’, and ‘Upar khuda’….

  1. Shashi ji,
Namaskar.. I am also firm believer of Lord Krishna. I am 50 year old I have a son of same age as Raja. I got married when I was very young. My father put my name after Lord Krishna. As you said this kid has something special, there is something divine in him. I have one Lord Krishna Statue in my house. During the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2007 Challenge I put Raja’s picture right next to Lord Krishna and I was praying for him. Even though Raja did not win the competition but I firmly believe that Lord Krishna heard my prayer and it will never go waste. Raja will do better than the winner.

  2. Shashi ji, it was nice to read your kind thoughts. With so many wonderful fan’s wishes being sent to him, all good things will happen for Raja.

There are so mmany similarities between him and Raja. That was what made me wrote
