Why Does Shekhar Click?
Some people have all the luck. Shekhar Ravjiani, or better known as the Shekhar of the Vishal-Shekhar duo is one of them.
He has the looks – I won’t discuss that here (there are several thousands of pages on forums discussing that). He has a sound knowledge of music. He does have the ability to speak the correct words at the correct time. He perfectly understands current music tastes. He is a marketing genius. And of course, he is one who honestly backs talent.
Among all the mentors from Saregamapa, Shekhar, along with Vishal simply stand apart. And Raja Hasan should consider himself extremely lucky to have a mentor like Shekhar. And this relationship continues to flourish well past Saregamapa. While most other mentors have already ditched their disciples, Shekhar and Vishal continue to back Raja. They have provided him the right breaks. They have introduced him to other composers like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In fact, they seem to have meticulously charted Raja’s future.
Any other guru, and I don’t think Raja, even with his exceptional talent, would have achieved this degree of success.
But, we were discussing Shekhar. What really makes this man click? Is it really his good looks? The kind of music he creates? Or the marketing genius within him? I think it has more to do with the modest approach he has. Shekhar has been one person, who has kept his feet well-grounded, even after reaching great heights o success. And the best part is that he backs talent – he appears fair to everyone who he feels is talented. And it isn’t just Raja. He has backed many other Saregamapa contestants, by providing them offers – including Junaid, Harpreeet and Sumedha.
And this is nothing new. Shekhar has backed new talents all through his career. He had introduced Shaan, he had promoted Krishna Kumar Menon (Now known as KK) right in his first film. And now look at how successful these singers are. Hopefully, Raja too would reach these heights of success with Shekhar’s guidance.
As Shekhar celebrates his birthday this Thursday, here wishing him a wonderful and successful year ahead.
