Raja Hasan in Saregamapa Vs. Original Performances
Well, here is a comparison post. It is a compilation of videos where you can compare Raja Hasan’s Saregamapa performances against the original singers. There has always been discussions on how Raja improvises the original song, sings in his own voice or how similar he is to a singer’s voice. This post should help you compare the two singers and analyse things better. Do let me know on which other song comparisons you would like. I’ll keep updating the post.

I think most of raja’s performances are better than the original once / my opinion may be biased , since i love his singing - i can listen to Raja’s songs , over and over and over………………….
we dont kwow which orginal as far raja sings any song dil kartha hai listen the song atleast 5 to 6 time
but i didnt listen original songs that much times

I’d also like to thank your good friend Dr. C. Vivek Lall who actually gave a detailed analysis of Raja’s performance for his songs. I actually repeat what Dr. Lall said to make people understand why Raja is unique and has edge above all other contestants. In fact people against him don’t find an answer to what Dr. Lall has said.
Keep up the good work buddy. Hope our prayers and support will make Raja winner.
BTW, what the hell is HR upto? I mean what he wants to prove, what he did on Saturday was absolutely absurd (I mean calling Aneek on stage telling him that you have lost the girl and now u can’t lose the competition). It is a competition, why is he making it a question of his (HR) life and death. What do u say?

sonam……raja’s version of “naina tag lenge” was better than the original and dats indeed commendable coz the original was sung by none other than rahet fateh ali khan!!!!!its one of raja’s best performances if not the best (lets hope the best is yet to come!!!
@ rajahasanbacker……good effort……i feel raja makes every song sound better than the original……..he has a God gifted voice……dunno i maybe biased …….i just hope everybody feels the same for him after watching these videos and raja gets a plethora of votes[:)]

first i was feeling weird when i came to that raja was going to sing ‘kiss me baby’ from garam masala. But like always he rocked n won thousends of hearts. He must get a chance to sing for bollywood

I too want Raja to sing any of or, both the songs from Chak De India: “Maula mere le le meri jaan” and “Chak De!”
I have been to many live performances (bollywood, classical and Gazals). What Raja does with the songs and the reaction of the Gurus (including his mentors) gives me the feeling that many of the improvisations are spontaneous and that shows his confidence, control and knowledge of music. In my personal opinion, no one else has ever shown such a command in singing in any of the singing contests on TV. Just listen carefully the songs sung by him when he is asked to repeat the performance. He has never sung the song as is again.

I don’t understand why the RajaBacker wants to compare the Originals with Raja’s version. We all know Raja makes those slight improvizations. As long as the improvization is better than original it is acceptable. I am not sure how wise it is putting the Maahiya song right at the top. Raja was completely out of place singing the swara (N S R G M M M). He only made up with the Aalaap that followed immediately. In fact you would know how close he was missing the Taal. He sounded great in Allah Ke bande though.
Raja is bound to scale greater heights. We wish him all the best.
Regarding the comparisons with Aneek - no need to compare. Raja is way ahead. Only candidate coming close to Raja is Poonam. In fact her Sur aur taal is better than Raja’s. Well, make no mistake about it, I am a Raja fan though.
c murali i dont know sur , taal wt ever when he perform he touches the heart to everybody we need that touch all the listeners dont know anything sur or taal we need something it should go in the heart like a bullet and that bullets Raja is firing continiuusly

Murali saab, there’ s a big difference between the Mahiya and the Allah ke Bande performances. The first, he is singing to a track and in the second to a live orchestra. Improvisations, I think, are a lot easier with a live band. Maybe you could throw more light on this issue.
The one reason, I put this up post was to let people know that Raja does improvise on original compositions - almost all other singers strive to remain close to the originals - even ape the voices.
One exception is Toshi, from Star Voice of India. Do check out his Teri Deewani video on this same page - the third video I recently added to the Teri Deewani series.

Hi Rajahasan Backer, Well, firstly I didn’t know that he was singing to a track in Allah Ke Bande. I mentioned Allah ke bande, becz the Alaap he gave in the beginning was his own and also in the middle. Improvizations are possible even while singing with the track. For example, imagine Kaale Megha Kaale Megha with the track and not with live band. In a cycle of eight beats one could say Kaale Meagha - Kaale Megha - Paan To - Barsavooo….
Improvization 1) In the same eight beats you could combine KaaleMeghaaaKaaleMegha - Paani to Barsavooo . The - that I used is for a gap. Another Improvization is in the eight beat cycle say Kaale Meagha - Kaale Megha - Paan To - Barsavooo…. In the next “four” beats which are meant for background music, you could quickly say KaaleMeghe Kaale maghe Panito Barsavo.
Yes, with live band much more improvizatons are possible. For example, In the Maahiya song, Shankar Mahadevan holds at the Higher Octave Gandharam (GA) for five seconds - like GA…….. R G R S N. Improvizing on this with a live band, one can hold at GA for say 30 seconds (I am attempting this only in Bathroom:-)) and use the same swaram.
Raja definitely made an impression that night but my only complaint is he spoiled the Swaram. And coming from a classical background that Raja is we expect him to be careful about the swaras (notes). You can ask Raja, I am sure he would agree he did not sing those notes correctly. And he was close to missing Taal while saying Maine / ki / Teri / bandagi in the break up style.

When a comparison comes into picture, you got to take into consideration sur aur taal. Main bhi Raja bada fan hun. And I want him to not just win the constest but become a star singer.

I wanted to add, in the Maahiya song, the singer (Raja) sings Meri Saason Mein Teri Jalwa Hain. While the actual lyric is Meri Saason Mein Teri Khushbu Hain. Does the first one makes sense?

I am a Tabla player as you can guess from the name.
Your comment - And he was close to missing Taal while saying Maine / ki / Teri / bandagi in the break up style - is totally wrong. It is common to improvise the line, and immediately join back to the taal. He did it very nicely. I have heard the song many more times (thanks to this website) for his amazing alap (which in your words spoiled the swaram!!!) and his Maine / ki / Teri / bandagi in the break up. This kind of improvisations makes him the best. That is the sign of a true singer. Otherwise, you will find many who can practice and sing a song nicely just like original.
Singers like Raja are the ones who makes live concerts more interesting as you know you will be hearing something new, something different than what you have already heard on the CD.
On this show, Raja, Amanat and Mussarat (I am not Muslim, I am a music lover) are the only singers from whom we can expect something out of ordinary. Others are nice singers (except Mauli) who does good justice to the song.
The most important thing is to sing like this where the listeners forget to give attention on sur and taal. And it must touch ur heart. In my opinion Raja sang like this (its just an opinion you guys can disagree with that!).

Raja has the capability to better the originals!He definitely bettered the song Mahiya!With Allah ke bande and Teri Diwani,the original is too good,so his version (mind u,whatever he sings,it sounds like his own VERSION!) was fabulous,but not better.Alla Ke Bande,though was toooooooooo good to be a Copy!as for maa tujhe salaam,i have mixed opinion!When i was listening to Raja that day,I was remembering RAhmaan,my favourite music director,but now whenever i think of the song,Raja rules my mind.After that song,for 1 week I couldnt think about any other song!
